Will Sutherland Returns to Yorkshire: A Star All-Rounder Joins the Vitality Blast and Rothesay County Championship
Yorkshire County Cricket Club is thrilled to announce the return of the talented Australian all-rounder, Will Sutherland, for the 2026 season. This exciting news comes as Sutherland will be available for the Vitality Blast and rounds seven and eight of the Rothesay County Championship, adding to the club's already impressive lineup.
Sutherland, a natural-born leader, has been a key player for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield and Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash. His exceptional skills were on full display during a memorable stint with Yorkshire in 2025, where he made a significant impact. One of his standout performances was a thrilling 58-run innings in a narrow loss to Northamptonshire, featuring an impressive six sixes. This display of power and precision showcased Sutherland's ability to dominate the game.
In the recent Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia, Sutherland continued his stellar form, scoring an unbeaten 101*. This achievement was all the more remarkable as he faced off against fellow Yorkshire recruits, Sam Whiteman and Jhye Richardson, further highlighting his prowess in the game. Additionally, Sutherland's talent was recognized on an international level when he toured India with the Australia A team in September, demonstrating his versatility and impact with both bat and ball.
Sutherland, affectionately known as 'Chief', expressed his enthusiasm for returning to Yorkshire, stating, 'I had a brilliant time with the Club last year, and I'm thrilled to be back at Headingley. Working with the coaching staff, particularly Mags, helped me improve my game, and I formed strong bonds with the rest of the team. I've been following the team's progress from afar, and the way we finished last season was truly impressive. The momentum and belief within the team were evident, and I can't wait to join the boys again and contribute to our success.'
Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Cricket, praised Sutherland's impact last season, noting his exceptional performance both on and off the field. He emphasized that Sutherland's return will bring additional leadership to the team, as he already understands the club's operations and values. Hamilton added, 'Will made a lasting impression on everyone last year, and his return will be warmly welcomed by our members and supporters. His presence will undoubtedly strengthen our squad and contribute to our success in the upcoming season.'
With Sutherland's return, Yorkshire fans can anticipate an exciting and competitive season ahead, as one of the sport's brightest stars joins the Vitality Blast and Rothesay County Championship.
