We are heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Shirley Lorraine Howe, a remarkable woman and the heart of our family. Shirley, born on the Wolastoq River's banks in 1934, was an esteemed member of the Sitansisk community and a proud Wolastoqey matriarch. Her life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to her culture, her community, and her beloved family.
Shirley's legacy is one of strength and love. She was the daughter of Thomas Joseph Brooks and Mabel Polchies, and her life's journey began with their love and guidance. Shirley leaves behind a devoted husband, Morley Frederick Howe, with whom she shared 71 years of marriage, and her six daughters: Deborah Johnson, Judith Adams, Candice Paul, Sandra Nolan, Shari Hunt, and Lisa Howe. Their love and support will forever be a testament to the bond she fostered within her family.
The impact of Shirley's life extends far beyond her immediate family. She is survived by her sister Maureen Fox and brother Wayne Brooks, along with a vast network of nieces, nephews, and friends who cherished her presence. Shirley's passing leaves a void, but her memory will forever be cherished by the 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren she leaves behind.
As we gather to honor Shirley's life, we find solace in the knowledge that her spirit will continue to thrive within each generation she nurtured. Her love and influence will live on, guiding and inspiring us all.
The funeral service will be held at the Saint Mary's Maqiyahtimok Centre in Fredericton, NB, on February 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. We invite you to join us in celebrating Shirley's life and legacy.
And here's where it gets even more remarkable: Shirley's passing reminds us of the interconnectedness of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. Her love and impact will forever be a guiding light for us all.
