Ever wonder how elite athletes bounce back after intense games? Cameron Brink, the Los Angeles Sparks forward, offers a peek into her post-game wellness routine, revealing the secrets behind her on-court success and off-season rejuvenation. It's a fascinating look at how a professional athlete prioritizes her well-being.
Since the WNBA season wrapped up in September, Brink has been embracing a balanced lifestyle. She's been hitting the gym, catching up on sleep, and whipping up delicious dinners, all while cherishing quality time with her family, adorable dogs, and fiancé. "Honestly, my life's great. I can’t complain," she shares, highlighting her love for working out as a central part of her life.
Brink is gearing up for a busy 2026, with a season in the three-on-three league Unrivaled in Miami this month, followed by her third season with the Sparks in May. Game days are high-energy, and Brink fuels her body from the moment she wakes up. She's a big fan of breakfast, especially overnight oats and chia seed pudding. She's also collaborating with MyFitnessPal to share some of her favorite recipes, including a chocolate chia seed pudding, and encourage others to track their meals.
"It's super helpful, especially as an athlete who's gone through injury and needs to track my protein intake, just to be really intentional about what I'm putting in my body,” Brink explains. She doesn't believe in strict restrictions, but she focuses on getting enough of the good stuff, allowing for flexibility the rest of the day.
But here's where it gets controversial... Food is just one piece of the wellness puzzle that keeps her at the top of her game. So, what else does she do?
Winding Down After the Game
Brink admits that falling asleep after games can be a challenge. After games, she lifts and then tries to eat. She usually eats dinner while getting treatment and then listens to a podcast on the drive home to unwind. She emphasizes the importance of calming her nervous system after the intensity of a game. "I try to tell myself, 'I'll think about the game tomorrow. Just hit the pause button on all the mistakes you made,'" she says.
Relaxation Techniques
For relaxation, Brink turns to rain sounds, white noise, or brown noise. She also enjoys podcasts like SmartLess and The Telepathy Tapes. She's also planning to read more books, encouraged by her fiancé. Sometimes, she goes out with her teammates, but she jokes that many of them are like grandmas, including herself.
Post-Game Fuel
After games, Brink usually goes for rice, chicken, and asparagus, which she can easily eat. She also drinks protein shakes and Cheribundi cherry juice, which contains magnesium. She finds this combination more effective than melatonin.
Team Bonding
After a win, the team sometimes goes out, but often, they're ready to head home and rest. They debrief the game, but everyone is usually eager to get some sleep.
Handling Losses
After a loss, Brink reflects on the game with her coaches, focusing on what could have been done better. She recalls a coach who used to say that winning means a lot of things went your way, but even in a loss, you might have played well. She approaches it similarly.
Mental Preparation
Every day, Brink visualizes her performance in the gym, whether playing in games or interacting with coaches. She's a daydreamer and enjoys visualizing during her car rides, especially in Los Angeles. She's also trying to meditate more, which she finds challenging.
New Year's Intentions
Brink's primary goal for the new year is to be present, in tune with the moment, and lead with gratitude. She loves the quote, "The No. 1 cheat code is authenticity and gratitude." She wants to live in the moment, reduce phone time, and fully absorb her experiences.
Wedding Manifestations
Brink is also manifesting a sunny wedding day, hoping for no rain during her fall wedding.
And this is the part most people miss...
Brink's routine highlights the importance of a holistic approach to wellness, combining physical recovery with mental preparation. It's a reminder that even the most successful athletes prioritize balance and self-care.
