This tragic event prompted detectives from both the Logan Child Protection and Investigation Unit, alongside the Child Trauma Unit, to initiate Operation Whiskey Nell—an in-depth investigation aimed at uncovering the details surrounding his untimely demise.
As a result of their thorough inquiry, law enforcement officers arrested a 24-year-old woman from Southport, who was reportedly acquainted with the infant. She has been charged with a serious offense of cruelty to children under 16 years, categorized as a domestic violence crime. This individual is scheduled to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on March 4.
In a related development, a 25-year-old man from Cleveland was taken into custody on Monday and faces a murder charge concerning the child’s death. His case has been brought before the Brisbane Magistrates Court, but proceedings have been postponed, with a new appearance scheduled for February 25 at Beenleigh Magistrates Court.
Detective Acting Inspector Glen Antonie, who provided commentary following the murder charge, noted that the investigation has been extensively reliant on medical and forensic evidence. He remarked, "This has been an incredibly protracted, complex, and comprehensive investigation. Our progress today in charging the 25-year-old Cleveland man is due to our reliance on evidence, forensic analysis, and the expertise provided by medical professionals."
